The Best of Scotland

This vacation takes you to four exciting locations which offer probably the very best walking in Scotland. Enjoy three nights around beautiful Loch Lomond, with the ascent of Ben Lomond (3,191 ft) and walks along sections of the West Highland Way, four nights in the majestic Fort William/Ben Nevis area with walks in the Ben Nevis range itself, along Glen Spean and around Loch Eil. Then another four nights in the Torridon Mountains with challenging peaks like great Ben Eige, awesome Liathach, Ben Alligin and lovely Slioch, all between 3,100/3,300 ft. as well as easier hikes along the rivers, glens & the coast.

And finally three nights in the dramatic Cairngorms including ascents of great 4, peaks like Ben MacDhui and of course Cairgorm itself, as well as the famous Larig Ghru pass. Easier options include hikes along the River Tay and in the Glen More Forest Park.




Transport will be by either a small, fully fitted coach, in the case of larger parties or comfortable mini-bus, for smaller groups.


The programme is designed for Grades B & C, as described below. With smaller parties you will have one Grassroutes Leader, and the walks will be a mix of grades 2 & 3, according to the make up of the group and its abilities. With larger parties we have two Grassroutes Leaders, in which case we offer a choice between a Grade B and C walk each day.

The distances and ascents may be modified, according to the abilities and wishes of the party but will generally be as follows :-

Grade B

Up to 3,000 feet of ascent/descent, on way-marked paths. Terrain may be steeply inclined and rough underfoot, with loose rock at times. Distances 10-15 miles.

Grade C

Up to 1,500 feet of ascent/descent, on way marked paths, Terrain may be steeply inclined and rough underfoot, with some loose rock. Distances usually up to about 8 miles.

Note: There is no obligation for anyone to walk every day - you may take a day off whenever you wish.
